The small periwinkle is not winter-hardy, but a creeping plant that forms about 60 cm long prostrate, rooting shoots. The leaves are bluish, fleshy, and the upper side of the leaf is shiny. It blooms in May and June with white, simple flowers. Typically, it forms a dense, covering carpet, which is why it is widely known as a beautiful ground cover plant. It is not afraid of competition from the roots of large trees and shrubs! It is undemanding, resilient, and practically grows in all garden soils and locations. It adapts well to dry and hot periods. Ideal conditions are partial shade, moderately rich, and moderately moist soil.
